How to join a Running Club

How to join a running club, or Run Club 101

  1. CLUB LOCATION: Check around, find a club either near home or work… Toronto Running Club (TRC) meets at the North Toronto Memorial Community Centre, 200 Eglinton Av. W. at Lascelles (just 3 blocks west of Yonge subway)
  2. TIME OF RUN: Is the time of the club run suitable for you and your friends?  …  TRC meets at the centre:
    1. Mondays, 6pm
    1. Wednesdays, 6:30pm
    1. Saturdays, 9:00am
  3. RUNNERS: Are members of your group already runners, have they run a few races so they know what their 5k and 10k times are?  Can your group run non-stop between 5 and 10 kilometers at an easy pace?  TRC members usually run in a group doing the medium route (about 10km) you’ll see on club maps.
  4. PARKING: Do you need parking? If so, the centre has underground parking at very cheap rates. Or there’s street parking on Lascelles, just south of the centre.
  5. CHANGE FACILITIES: Do you need to change for the run? Use the men’s and women’s change rooms at the west end of the centre (down the hall from the gym).  Bring your own lock.
  6. WHY JOIN A CLUB: Because: it’s motivating to run with others; it’s fun to chat with others; you’ll inevitably learn from others; it’s safer running with others!
  7. SOCIAL SIDE: Besides having 3 running times per week to partake of, there are pub nights and the odd party.
  8. JOINING: If you’ve checked out enough about the club and location and decide to become a member…  join TRC through its website or pay cash to Michael Brennan or Jonas McCann. Either way, we’ll need you to fill out a membership form that has a waiver and provides the club with your own contact info and an emergency contact.
  9. ONCE YOU’VE JOINED: We have club swag to give you and of course the secret handshake!
