About us

About the Club

Toronto Running Club (TRC) is a sociable running club that meets every Wednesday evening of the year at 6:30 p.m. at the North Toronto Memorial Community Centre, 200 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto, Canada (map).

Each week we offer runs of 7k, 10k and 13k that are generally low-key and non-competitive, with the entire group starting together at a pace that allows for conversation. Average weekly attendance is 25-35 runners so there’s always someone to run with. We’re a friendly bunch so come on out and join us for a run!

Club Executive

The club is managed by a volunteer executive elected to their positions for two year terms. The club executive meets on the second last Wednesday of each month to plan events, settle finances, and debate issues. All club members are welcome to attend meetings, so let any one of us know if you are interested in attending or have ideas. If you want to contact our club executive, please e-mail Michael or phone him at 416-497-1221.

History

The club was started in 1995 by Michael Brennan, then co-owner of Marathon Dynamics Inc. (MDI), a company formed to provide running clinics and personal coaching for runners of all levels. The club was created because participants in the first marathon clinic conducted by MDI in January 1995 wanted to keep running and socializing together. Word got out and the club grew rapidly.

Social

The social aspects are just as important as the running aspects of the club, so many social activities are planned throughout the year, including pub night on the last Wednesday of every month and a Christmas party at the end of the year. Other events have included winter hot-chocolate runs, summer lemonade runs, game nights, water stations at races, and road trips to races in Vermont, Montréal, and Hamilton.  There’s an ‘unofficial’ pub night every Wednesday after the run where 6-12 members dine.

A number of club members also cycle together (anywhere from 40-80km) on Sundays from spring to fall outside Toronto and a number also get together to cross-country ski in the winter.
